J + J
Jake + Johnnye’s wedding was the epitome of a fairytale! It was stunning and classy. Every detail was thoughtfully curated and their talented vendor team brought it all to life. The photos truly looked like they were taken out of a magazine! We were so grateful to have hosted them here at The Emerson this past January!
Here’s their story – “Jake and I met in September of 2019 through mutual friends, and it was truly God’s perfect timing! On our first date, Jake said to me, “I’m not trying to be your friend. I hope someday we are best friends, but right now I’m not here to be your friend.” It was clear he wasn’t messing around, and I appreciated that so much! I was immediately drawn to his character – a man after God’s own heart. He is steady, thoughtful, kind, and hard working. He encouraged me in my strengths and challenged me in my weaknesses. I could see the ways I complemented him, too. After six months, we decided we wanted to be partners for life and began talks of engagement and deeper premarital conversations. Jake proposed June 21, 2020, on the front porch of our (future) home. It was so special!”
One of our favorite questions to ask our couples is what drew them to The Emerson! “We attended a wedding at The Emerson in October of 2019 shortly after we started dating (our first wedding together!), so I love the sentiment it holds. Before Jake proposed, he met up with a friend who was also going to be our wedding planner (Kari with Allora & Ivy), and she told him, “I have three venues in mind for you guys, but when I show you the first one you won’t even care to see the others.” And it was The Emerson! We never considered getting married anywhere else – it just fit us perfectly. We love the aesthetic, and I think it gives the best of both worlds – the tradition of getting married in a chapel while celebrating at a modern venue.”
Wedding days are filled with so many sweet moments! We asked J if there was a memorable one that stuck out to her – “I loved the moment right after the ceremony as we exited the chapel. That’s when it hit! We’re married!!! I couldn’t stop smiling the rest of the night! The wedding preparation was over, the pre-ceremony nerves were gone, and we were celebrating with our most special family and friends. It was so much fun, I never wanted it to end!”
Are you planning a wedding, but don’t really know where to start? J says, “We tried to make the day reflect who we are as a couple and that made it really fun! We love coffee, so we had a coffee cart (Night Owl Coffee) and gave espresso mugs as favors. Pick a couple things that are special to you together and add it into the design! As for the wedding day, take in the small moments of the day. It goes so fast, but try to keep up with it and be present. Have a few moments in mind that you want to really focus on and remember exactly as it happens (for example: first looks, vows, speeches). It’s fun to talk about those moments with your spouse afterward and hear what moments were important to them, too!”
