Mattie + Carl were hands down one of the most fun, genuine, and easiest-to-celebrate couples that we’ve gotten to host in our space. Their day was filled to the brim of the dreamiest of details, squeals of excitement + expectation, and the most epic dance party of all time.
Here’s their love story – “We briefly met because of mutual friends in 2017. It was only for a moment. Fast forward another year and a half later, and we found ourselves in the same house leading worship for a group of young adults. We were both drawn to each other that first night and the timing felt right. A few months passed, and before you know it, we got engaged after six months of dating. As we began to plan our wedding, a global pandemic came crashing into the world. We cut our engagement short by one month. We will never forget sitting in the Mcdonald’s parking lot, calling our parents, and making a pros and cons list on if we should get married now. We didn’t know what the next few days let alone weeks, would bring. We drove to the last opening appointment at the courthouse, a few hours away. We got married the same week COVID shut down San Francisco, and it happened to be on the same beach where Carl asked Mattie to be his girlfriend. It was holy and unique. After a surf and flowers were put in Mattie’s hair, we gathered here to bind our lives together. We vowed a lifetime, and we are watching it unfold together.”
We’re so grateful to be a part of an industry alongside so many other beautiful venues + talented vendors, so we love hearing what drew our couples to choosing us for such a special day! Here’s why M + C chose E – “You can’t help but think, “Wow. It is so peaceful here.” We wanted a space that offered that peace of mind to our guests. They walked with us every step of the way and served us with intentionality and care. We didn’t want a venue that felt stale or inauthentic. The Emerson could not have been more perfect. It had everything to offer and more.”
Wedding days carry so many precious, sweet moments – we absolutely love hearing about which moments stood out to our couples. “Our ceremony was one of the most sacred moments we have yet to experience. Carl and I shared our stories with the entire audience in attendance. We shared how we came to where we are and what we experienced during our first year of marriage. We didn’t want a ceremony that was a reenactment of something that had already happened. Instead, we wanted to create room for something new and monumental to our story. We led worship together and prayed with our families. We had a couple that meant a lot to us led us in our vows, and to see a husband and wife lead us, already married, into restating our vows publicly in front of the people in our life was pure bliss.”
M’s advice for those who are currently in a season of planning – “It’s going to be beautiful. Create a day that feels utterly true to you and that honors the people you love most. I was a wedding photographer for six years, and I have seen my fair share of weddings. I felt the pressure this day could bring—plan with this in mind: your peace of mind and feeling present on your wedding day matters. You are so worthy of celebration. We wanted to highlight calling out the gold in others who have been with us along the journey. If you find pockets to honor the people who have been with you as your story evolves and who have helped shape you, it makes this day even sweeter.”
Congratulations again, Mattie + Carl! Your wedding was one for the books! It was so special watching so many friends + family members show up from around the country to celebrate your marriage! Thank you for allowing us to be a part of the celebration. We felt so honored that you chose us! We cannot wait to follow along + watch the rest of your beautiful life together unfold. Another thank you goes to M + C’s incredible vendors that executed the all the lovely details. Emily Magers, these photos are GORGEOUS. Thank you so much for capturing all the magic from this day. Nightowl, we LOVED the way that you customized our George + Willy sign for the coffee menu! M had so many kind things to say about her vendor team – “Emily Magers was a heavenly addition to have to this day. She celebrated with us, directed us in love, and we knew we could count on her as a friend and talented photog. LOAM Studio did our florals, and we are forever grateful for the artistry they brought to our space. They made our dreams tangible by incorporating our heritages. NightOwl Coffee was spectacular. Our guests could not get enough, and that also goes for Starry Ice Cream Cart. We adored these vendors, and they brought so much joy to our evening.” Check out the rest of the team below!
